Pierce College campus lockdown lifted Following a threat at West Valley Occupational Center: On Tuesday, July 23, an approximately 45-minute lockdown at Pierce College was lifted at 11:16 a.m. after a reported threat at the nearby West Valley Occupational Center was deemed non-credible.

The lockdown had begun shortly before 10:30 a.m. as a precautionary measure in response to a concerning telephone statement made by an unknown individual. This statement raised significant safety concerns for the West Valley Occupational Center campus, prompting an immediate response from authorities.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the lockdown was implemented to ensure the safety of everyone on Pierce College’s campus due to its close proximity to West Valley Occupational Center, located just across the street along Winnetka Avenue. The Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) was quick to investigate the threat.

After conducting a thorough examination of the situation, LASPD determined that there was no substantial evidence supporting the existence of a credible threat. The swift and decisive actions taken by law enforcement were intended to protect the students, staff, and visitors on both campuses, including the many children participating in summer camp activities at Pierce College.

With the lockdown lifted, both Pierce College and West Valley Occupational Center resumed their normal operations. A spokesperson for LASPD confirmed that all students and staff were confirmed safe and there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
