Louis Mohana Obituary, Death; Houma LA, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, And Entrepreneur Has Died

Louis Mohana Obituary, Death; Houma LA, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, And Entrepreneur Has Died:  Louis J. Mohana, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and visionary entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, at the age of 75. His death marks the end of a remarkable life filled with love, achievement, and unwavering commitment to family and community. Louis Mohana was a pillar of the Bourg community, known for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his family.

Alongside his beloved wife, Jennifer Crochet Mohana, he founded Louis Mohana Furniture, a successful business that began from humble beginnings. What started as a small room in a converted horse barn with a single employee on Hwy. 24 evolved into an impressive 80,000-square-foot showroom. Over the past 44 years, the business has employed hundreds of Terrebonne Parish residents and become a cornerstone of the local community.

Louis’s commitment to his business was matched by his dedication to his family. His proudest achievements were the four children he raised with Jennifer: Tricia Summers (Brian), Joseph Mohana (Julie Miller), Anne Watson (Philip), and Katharine Mohana. He was also a doting grandfather to James Summers, Jack Summers, Julia Watson, and George Watson, and he shared his home with two much-loved dogs—a white lab and a golden retriever, both of whom were treated to two stints at doggy bootcamp.

Louis’s love for fast cars and anything with an engine was evident throughout his life. As a child, he demonstrated his mechanical curiosity by deconstructing a garden pump, a passion that led him to compete in drag racing events with his son Joseph, including the NHRA Drag Racing Top Sportsmen Series. His enthusiasm for cars was matched only by his love for horses. Louis took immense pride in watching his daughters compete at the Appaloosa World Championships.

Louis’s greatest joy was his relationship with Jennifer, whom he married in 1975. Together, they built a life filled with shared accomplishments, family celebrations, and many road trips. Their life together was also marked by a deep commitment to their community. Louis was known for his generous spirit, regularly donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Louis J. and Mae Mohana. His family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Russell Henry, the VitalCaring staff, the Louis Mohana Furniture employees, and the many caregivers who provided support during his final days. Visitation will be held at St. Ann Church in Bourg on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial following at noon. The graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Ann Church in Bourg in Louis’ memory.

Louis J. Mohana, Jr. will be remembered for his entrepreneurial achievements, his passion for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy will continue to inspire and touch the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
