Chip Davis Charlotte NC Obituary: Death, Well-Known Artist & Technical director at Davidson College has died: We are heartbroken at the sudden and untimely passing of Chip Davis, a beloved and immensely talented member of our creative family. Chip was not only a masterful artist and tech director, but also a cherished friend, mentor, and collaborator whose impact on our productions was profound and far-reaching.
His extraordinary skills and vision transformed our stage with remarkable designs for some of our most memorable productions, including Dot, Andy and the Orphans, The Glorious World of Crowns, Kinks, and Curls, The Chinese Lady, and most recently, Thoughts of a Colored Man. Each of these shows was elevated by Chip’s creative genius and meticulous craftsmanship.
Chip’s contributions extended beyond these standout projects. He also lent his expertise and support to other significant productions like Sanctuary City and The Lehman Trilogy, where his innovative designs and thoughtful problem-solving were invaluable. We had envisioned many more opportunities to collaborate with him in the future, and it is incredibly painful to realize that those dreams will now remain unfulfilled.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Corey Mitchell for introducing Chip to our team during the production of Dot. That introduction was a gift that enriched our artistic community immeasurably. Chip was a wonderful and kind person, known for his generosity of spirit, his excellent teaching and mentoring skills, and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. His warmth, reliability, and enthusiasm made him a joy to work with, and his brilliance as a designer was matched only by his kindness and humanity.
Our thoughts are with Chip’s wife and their young son during this incredibly difficult time. We also hold close in our hearts the entire Davidson College community, where Chip made lasting contributions, as well as our own theatre community at large, which feels this loss deeply. We will always remember Chip for his extraordinary talent, his joyful spirit, and the positive mark he left on all of us. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward, forever grateful for the time we had with him.
