Meredith Portillo Death San Antonio, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Died In Tragic Car Accident: It is with great sadness that we report the tragic loss of Deputy Meredith Portillo, 20, who lost her life earlier this morning in a fatal accident involving a suspected wrong-way driver along IH-37 S and Donop Rd in South Bexar County. Deputy Portillo, who was off-duty at the time, had two other occupants in her vehicle when they were struck by the wrong-way driver. Both Deputy Portillo and one of her passengers were killed upon impact, while the other passenger sustained serious injuries. The suspect driver was also killed upon impact.

Deputy Meredith Portillo began her law enforcement career with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at the young age of 19 in September 2023. She graduated from the detention academy in January 2024 and was just at the beginning of what promised to be a dedicated and impactful career in law enforcement. Deputy Portillo was known for her commitment, enthusiasm, and the potential she showed as a young officer. Her untimely death has left a void in the hearts of her colleagues and the community she served. She was not only a rising star in the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office but also a beloved daughter, friend, and community member.
