West-Yancy Obituary, Victim Of Fatal Shooting Near Kansas City’s Independence Plaza Identified: Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend near Kansas City’s Independence Plaza. The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department reports that emergency crews were dispatched to the area of 9th and Chestnut Ave., two blocks east of Prospect between Independence Ave. and I-70, around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Responders arrived to find an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the life-saving measures taken by EMS personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. On Sunday, the victim was identified as 25-year-old Melquan T. West-Yancy. The Kansas City Police Department has classified the case as a homicide.
