As a rookie in the 1992 PGA TOUR season, Carnevale initially faced challenges, making only five cuts in his first 10 starts. His best finish during this period was a tie for 39th at the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, where he earned just over $1,000. However, signs of his potential emerged with a tie for 13th at the BellSouth Classic and a tie for 19th at the Centel Western Open.
Carnevale’s breakthrough came at the Chattanooga Classic, held at Council Fire Golf Club, which straddles Tennessee and Georgia. In a remarkable final round, Carnevale shot a 64 to secure victory by two strokes over Ed Dougherty and Dan Forsman. This victory not only marked his first and only PGA TOUR win but also earned him the title of PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year for 1992.
