Human remains have apparently been found by rescue workers looking for British teenager Jay Slater, according to the Guardia Civil. Officers said that “evidence strongly suggests” that the remains are those of the 19-year-old. The body was found close to the area where Slater was last observed, a Reuters report stated. The discovery of a body by the Guardia Civil in the Masca village’s ravine was confirmed by Radio Canarias.

THE GUARDIA CIVIL STATEMENT
“The Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) of the Guardia Civil has discovered the body of a young man in the Masca area, in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte, following a 29-day search. Preliminary evidence suggests that the remains are those of Jay Slater, a British teenager who went missing on June 17, 2024. The search, described as incessant and discreet, was conducted to avoid attracting public attention and to preserve the natural environment. The discovery was made in a steep and inaccessible part of the region, leading investigators to believe that Slater may have suffered an accidental fall.

Today’s operation, led by the GREIM agents who specialize in mountain rescues, culminated in finding the body in one of the most difficult-to-reach areas of Masca. This discovery follows nearly a month of continuous searching in the presumed disappearance area. Confirmation that the body is indeed Jay Slater is pending an autopsy, which will also aim to verify that his death resulted from an accident.”
