In a shocking incident that rattled residents of the East Village, Manhattan, a man was shot in the back at Tompkins Square Park on Friday morning. The shooting occurred around 9:50 a.m. near the southwest corner of the park, close to the popular chess area. The victim, after being wounded, sought assistance from a nearby deli.
