Nicole Mertens Southlake TX Death: 4th Grade Art Teacher at Old Union Elementary School has died

Nicole Mertens has passed away suddenly. The Beloved Elementary School teacher was confirmed dead on Monday, July 8, 2024 in several publications released on social media. She was an incredible educator who worked at Old Union Elementary School, teaching art and fourth grade. Nicole Mertens has had the pleasure of instructing the children of many EIS families in art during their time at OUES.

In Loving Memory of Nicole Mertens

Beloved wife, mother, and friend, Nicole Mertens was an art teacher at Old Union. She passed away over the weekend following an incident, and her family has been in need of prayers. Nicole and her husband Mark reside in Southlake, and they are the parents of two Dragon students. Nicole was not only a gifted and inspirational teacher, but also a loving mother and devoted wife.

Nicole, a CISD teacher for 21 years, was a cornerstone of our community. Everyone she came into contact with was profoundly impacted by her fervor for learning and unwavering commitment to teaching students. She had a unique talent for uplifting and guiding young people, changing many lives forever.

In addition to Carroll Independent School District and Old Union Elementary School, the City of Southlake, our City Council, and City Staff also send their sympathies and express our grief over the loss of CISD teacher Nicole Mertens, a resident of Southlake.

The Old Union Elementary School faculty, staff, parents, friends, and neighbors have shown the family an abundance of love, respect, and support, as well as Principal Fike’s kind remarks.

“We, the parents of the Dragons and citizens of Southlake, are incredibly grateful to educators like Nicole Mertens, who worked for CISD for twenty-one years and had a profound impact on countless lives. We are grateful for the kindness and grace shown by our first responders. Carroll Independent School District sent out a message to parents asking them to “please join CISD, our City Council, and City Staff in keeping the Mertens family in our prayers.”
